The Vampire Diaries: 04x10 – After School Special

the-vampire-girl-blog:

imageThe season returns with a moment of sadness with the memorial for Mayor Lockwood where Elena spots Rebekah. Damon is still at the cabin with Jeremy to help grown the hunter mark, while being painfully away from Elena. Klaus shows up at the cabin to help move the progress along for the mark. Meanwhile, Rebekah has taken Elena, Stefan and Caroline (later joined by Tyler and Shane) to find out about the cure.

Vampire Diaries Recap: “The Departed”Original Air Date (The CW): Thursday May 10th–2012Season 3 Episode 22
Favorite Quote: “You want a love that consumes you. You want passion, and adventure and even a little danger.” –Damon
All the events from the kisses to the drama have lead us to the season 3 finale and there will be some choices that need to be made and possibly some hearts broken in the process. The episode starts with Elena having a dream about what life was when she was the happy cheerleader type only to wake to find herself in the hospital and in possible danger. Alaric shows up to Meredith after treating Elena and his request the release of Elena into his custody only to find out that Jeremy has already gotten her home. And always Damon and Stefan on their way to dispose of Klaus’s body are worried about Elena’s safety. There are more dreams about their sophomore year and she realizes these dreams of the past are trying to tell her what to do in her future. She knows she has to let either Stefan or Damon go but she’s not sure which one. As well as we see the return of Elijah.
Alaric is trying to play the protective guardian while using Jeremy to get rid of the vampires in Elena’s life and wants to know where Klaus’s body is now. Elijah wants to waken Klaus to help stop Alaric and allow Elena to live out her life safely. While Damon is on the phone from the car trying to protest but no one seems to be listening to him. With the information that Matt has Jeremy pretending to be on board misinforms Alaric of where Klaus’s body. Rebekah and Elijah not happy with what happened with Klaus think it’s best to kill Alaric and they know there is only one way to do that and that’s through Elena.
Caroline and Tyler’s mothers decide it’s best to send them away so they can’t be hurt. This because Alaric informed the town council about them and using the fear of the council to his cause of ridding the town of vampires. Tyler wants nothing more to protect Caroline and convinces her to leave but after they help the rest of the group out first. Caroline is very much worried that this will be the end of Tyler but he only wants her to be happy in the rest of her life. If there is any moment for the wolf to kick in it’s now.
Damon again enlists the team Bonnie to deal with Klaus’s body in the storage locker but she would like nothing more to destroy him for everything he’s done to the people around her. After Bonnie leaves Damon waits on Rebekah to pick up the body but Alaric seems to have been wise of the plan. Alaric on the mission to find the body, Rebekah shows for her to witness the death of Klaus and now it’s time to wait and see if Klaus was really the sire of their bloodline. Damon hears what he’s always known and at his point doesn’t care what Alaric might do to him despite knowing the fact that he did meet Elena first. And because of Bonnie’s help with Klaus she does something to protect the bloodlines preventing them from dying with him.
Elena continues to struggle not only with having to choice between the Salvatore brothers but also with losing any more people that she cares about. Stefan makes her feel safe and protected like the night that Stefan saved her. On the other hand Damon shakes her up, consumes and is the adventure she might need in life. She confides in Matt with all this only for him to surprise her by drugging her so he can get her out of town and be safe. Finally the ultimate choice is in front of Elena either keep driving and possibly bid her farewell to Damon or turn back to say goodbye to Stefan but the group rules out one. And we hear the truth that is too hard to take. As well as the injuries were worst as Meredith previously told everyone so never trust a doctor that uses vampire blood to ‘heal’ her patients.
Season 4 should be set to return in the fall, there is no date released as of yet only the advanced post of it being picked up for a new season.

Vampire Diaries Recap: “Before Sunset”Original Air Date (The CW): Thursday May 3rd–2012Season 3 Episode 21
Favorite Quote: “Gotta say, I’m team Bonnie on this one. How hard can it be to parch a vampire?” – Damon
Alaric thanks to Bonnie with the push of Esther has completed the change despite reservations about becoming the ultimate immortal and hunter. He’s already on his mission not even caring about the victims in his path. For being the ultimate immortal he’s still limited by the sunlight without a ring and that no witch can truly make an immortal without some kind of loophole. Bonnie yet again is the one that seems to come to the rescue along with the return with her mother. And to stop Alaric means that that Bonnie needs to stop the heart of someone and it’s not what one might think. Even though Jeremy is the sacrifice it’s really Elena. Since her blood was used in the spell when Elena dies so does Alaric, which makes the expiration date part of the spell, make sense.
Elena and Jeremy decide it’s time for fresh starts and knowing that the house really is their own now without Jenna and Alaric. Jeremy thanks to Damon’s compulsion is still in the dark about some vampire things, even the fact that he is/was technically one himself. Elena receives a phone call from Alaric to inform her that he has Caroline in the school. He’s using them both as bait so that Klaus will turn himself in to be sacrificed so that Esther can finally have an end to her children’s lives.
Klaus shows up and needs a few items before he leaves town, one of which includes a doppelganger.  He wants to get in to get her despite not knowing she’s gone already to the school to save Caroline. Klaus stops at nothing to bring down the house to get to her but is stopped in his tracks when Stefan finally tells him Elena isn’t here and if he doesn’t turn himself over to Alaric then both Elena and Caroline die. Have to wonder for a moment if Klaus stops more because of the precious doppelganger blood or for the woman he’s become very fond of even with her constant rejects. Klaus reveals to Stefan that he thinks that he’s on team Stelena and thinks Damon is a waste of time for Elena. Klaus of course makes sure that Caroline is the one that is safe and her safety is his concern.
Finally Tyler’s true test if he’s no longer sire bonded by Klaus comes when he finds Elena tied up in a chair while Klaus drains her dry. One can see the internal struggle within Tyler whether to stay and help Elena or go and get the blood bags for Klaus. Of course, Tyler comes back to free her only to be spotted by Klaus and he knows the sire bond is over. And is it possible that because Tyler is a hybrid that he might not die completely if Klaus is killed. When will Bonnie learn that using Jeremy as a guinea pig for her spells only seems to play with her feelings for him.
Love the awkward moment at the end when Damon and Stefan have to hear Elena express that she doesn’t want to lose either of them if she chooses. She might have to one day decided but as it stands now she has her friends around her which is all the family she will ever need and tequila included.
In other news, CW announced today that the Vampire Diaries has been picked up for another season and will return in the fall with all new episodes after next week’s season 3 finale.

Vampire Diaries Recap: “Do Not Go Gentle”Original Air Date (The CW): Friday April 26th–2012Season 3 Episode 20
Favorite Quote: “Perhaps one day, in a year or even in a century, you’ll turn up at my door and let me show you what the world has to offer.” – Klaus
In true Vampire Diaries tradition and their way of adding more tense to it all there is another dance, which causes confusion of dates yet again. What school has this many dances? Anyway, as always Elena attends with Stefan on Caroline’s advice with the 1920’s themed dance with has all of Rebekah’s influence but none of her actual help behind but with the help of Esther becomes dangerous.
So it seems that Esther always seems to one step ahead of everyone but it comes to destroying the curse she has inflicted on her family. With the help of Alaric and the possibly unknown assistance of Rebekah’s body for a while, Esther now in her own body conjures up the ultimate weapon for the ultimate vampire hunter. Esther’s real plan is to create a new more powerful original using Alaric and dark magic to bring down her children. Also with Alaric’s ring will make the remaining white oak stake indestructible.  With Alaric’s good nature he’s decided to look himself away until Esther’s expiration of her spell wears off. However, Esther is not content with Alaric not completing the change so she compels Bonnie somehow to force her blood on Alaric which wakens the true monster.
There is a boundary spell placed around the school keeping certain people such as Klaus from escaping so that Esther has a chance for her plan. As well as gets Elena out since it seems that ever important spell requires the blood of the doppelganger. This not only stirs up more things not only inside but also outside the boundary for all the parties involved. With the help of Bonnie and a little threatening from Klaus they are all able to stand together including Meredith (mostly like there because of Damon’s concern about Alaric not taking the herbs from Bonnie) as Alaric faces a hard decision in his now long life. Bonnie gets thanked for her help most of the time and all she has to say was that isn’t wasn’t for them, then for whom? Elena is now even more a ball of mixed emotions since Esther’s words about Jenna being at piece and now she really feels that she doesn’t have anyone anymore most of all Alaric who was taking care of Jeremy and herself since Jenna’s death but the sun on Stelena seems to rise a little bit again. Most likely Damon won’t be far behind to catch her again if Stefan slips up or Elena really decides where her feeling lie.
The love triangles are very evident in this episode much like other episodes that contain dances. Bonnie despite Jeremy’s return has decided to move on and take a chance with someone new and he thinks it all pretty amazing what she does. Damon always the best at interrupting some special moments when he’s all moody and well things need to be taken care of that require Bonnie’s magic. Tyler is still jealous about Caroline’s possible relationship with Klaus which is stirred up when they dance and Klaus again tries to offer Caroline the world. Tyler is still pretending to be the ever loyal fledgling to Klaus even though it might be just easier to let the cat out of the bag because it’s just causing more trouble either way. As well as Damon is still hurt from the trip to Denver but despite all the Damon is on top of everything he can for the team. Damon even offers up some advice on the corsage for Elena for the dance and avoiding the pin prick and opting for a wrist one.

Vampire Diaries Recap: “Heart of Darkness”Original Air Date (The CW): Friday April 19th–2012Season 3 Episode 19
Favorite Quote: “I don’t want to live up to anyone’s expectations.” – Damon
Due to the new developments of handing over the white oak and the possibly danger that Jeremy might face because of Klaus; Elena and Damon (under Stefan’s recommendation) decide to go to Denver to collect Jeremy to keep him safe. Stefan suggested they go because he thinks Elena has some unresolved feelings for Damon and somehow a trip away is the best way to uncover them, personally it never seems to work out that way for the first party. Also because of Jeremy’s abilities they hope to use him to gain sire information from beyond the grave from Rose despite Kol’s constant intruding and beatings.
Alaric has decided until they understand more of Samantha Gilbert’s intentions that it’s best to be locked away so no one else gets hurt. Stefan also stays to play watchdog and help Klaus find the last few of the white oak stakes to insure that the bloodlines of the vampires remain alive. Alaric uses what is left of Stefan’s weakness but Stefan over comes it to find out where the last stake is unfortunately it’s in the cave. As always the originals have a plan to get it but Alaric tries to strike a deal with Rebekah who really isn’t who we thought she has always been.
Caroline sneaks away from planning another school dance leaving it all in Rebekah’s hand while she goes to see Tyler. They are so happy to see each other after so long and all that’s happened that they just can’t keep their hands off each other. They moment is ruined when Caroline reveals about the vampire bloodlines if an original is killed which means there is a chance that Tyler might die. They make up a bit only for Tyler to find the drawing from Klaus making Tyler question what might have happened while he was gone.
Esther makes her return to reveal that she is dying, despite having her own children out to kill her. It seems that the powers that Esther was drawing from were from the Bennett line and since Abby’s death it has weakened her. Then with one last breath and it’s goodbye to Esther or who we thought was Esther.
Have to say personally the best moment is when Elena is sleeping and Damon wakes up for a drink causing Elena to wake up and watch him in his moment of reflection. Damon notices Elena watching him, so he goes over to lie beside her. They talk about Rose’s finally moments while their hands come together but Elena gets out of the bed as if still scared of her feelings for Damon. Elena goes outside and the teasing moment from the dream and the happy moment from that last kiss are all shattered with the passion of this kiss but Jeremy has information before it can go anywhere else.
As always for those that are team Delena think that we are going to get Elena and Damon together finally, something happens and Damon snaps back to the heartless man that we came to love leaving all those on team Stelena.

Favorite Quote: “Poor Elena Gilbert, savior of the cursed and damned.” – Caroline
Damon, Stefan and the help of Alaric get to a bit of whittling. The gang all meets up in the woods so Damon and Stefan can share that they have white oak stakes in order to kill the Originals. They slowly start forging plans and even practicing some ways to rid of them. Finn makes his return without Esther only to be found by Klaus who is still trying to find away to break the link between them.  Sage finally gets to have the chance to see Finn again and is more than thrilled to know he’s still alive. She always gets to confess to him that she still loves him and doesn’t want him to die which brings a smile to his face. Get to see how they interact only to be vervained with the help of Tyler and Stefan. Then Sage loses her only love and wants her revenge but doesn’t quite get it before dropping dead. Rebekah being the ever vengeful type decides she has some unfinished Damon only to knife him, kidnap him, hang him up and torture him slowly. Damon probably never thought that Rebekah was that into being ever so kinky. She has the desire to use Damon to do her biding by slowly bleeding him dry of his vervain to possibly have him kill Stefan or Elena. Bonnie even has the chance to free Damon herself but wont because possibly what he did to her mother but still calls Elena to let her know about Damon and Klaus. Klaus takes Bonnie in order to help him cast a spell to break the link between his siblings even to the point of using Jeremy to persuade her. Even offers to help bring Bonnie’s mother to her but then turns it into the threat by saying in little pieces if he has to. Unfortunately for Bonnie she completes the spell just before the staking of Finn which prevents the link from killing them all. Have to say the best scene of the whole night have to be Elena coming to rescue Damon for once. He’s so weak from blood lost they can barely making it out of the house and she’s not going to leave him. So she offers her wrist so he can drink up and the intense feeling of it all leads him to lean in and kiss her but….he wakes up to find he’s still hanging there and Rebekah’s even jealous of a little daydream. Twist of the night is that when an originals dies that means all their bloodline dies with them which means if the originals don’t exist then either will vampires at all. With the remaining 3 stakes that Elena has while Stefan tries to hand the rest over to help free the compelled Damon which backfires a bit. The hardest part is figuring out the bloodlines that connect back to the originals and realized that if they do kill Klaus for certain one will die which is Tyler.

Vampire Diaries Recap: “Break on Through”Original Air Date (The CW): March 22nd–2012 Season 3 Episode 17
Favorite Quote: “Sweet chime of desperation.” – Sage
This episode continues with the investigation into the mysterious attacks that Alaric is behind. Not really sure yet about the whole thing, still pretty sure that Dr. Fell as something to do with it. However, Alaric reaction in the scanner gives the first look of what might be going on inside of his head. There seems to be a lot more to Samantha’s let call it possession then we are being told, was it something about Damon’s attack of her but then one would think her goal would be to rid the town of vampires and not council members. Some things are not adding up here, making complete sense or she’s mad because the council wasn’t there to protect her from vampires.
Also get the introduction to the new (and somewhat unhappy) vampire in town, Abby. She’s having a hard time not feeling her connections to the earth that witches have. Bonnie does everything in her power including making a ring so her mother can be out in the daylight. As much as the relationship between Bonnie and Jeremy was a bit troublesome at time, nice to see Bonnie smile again even if it’s at her step-brother. She deserves a little bit of happiness while trying to do everything she can to help her mother and her friends while not being able to be with Jeremy if that’s still even in the cards somewhere.
Finally get to see the modern interactions behind the vampire teacher to Damon’s student, Sage. Could really do without the commentary of Rebekah but come to understand the reasoning for Sage’s despise despite her past connection with Finn. Sage’s powers gives Damon a new reason to behind getting rid of the Originals hopefully once and for all again while giving them a new ally. When is Damon going to tell her what Esther had spelled against her children which would affect Sage’s happily ever after – guess Rebekah is good for something for Sage.
The scenes with Stefan and Elena are always the most painful to watch, even when it’s nothing to do with them but even just simply Stefan telling her about what happened to Samantha Gilbert. One always thinks back to the first season with all time smiles and moments with them being so happy and in love but now it’s all gloomy. Stefan always seemed to have the information that is needed right at the moment where it’s most needed. In spite of Stefan’s lack of control he seems to find the strength again with Elena to help Meredith.
Knowing that fans that make up mash up names for their favorite couples on shows, does this still count or work when there is a bit of a ménage à trois? Let’s give it a try, Dabekage? How is that, does that about sum everything for now? Do have to admit that Damon and Sage make a good team even the shower scene was steamy, well it was. Plus when there is a dancing Damon involved then there is no need to complain much. Think if it wasn’t for Sage that the Damon in all his charm and seduction might have never been. Also this episode is plentiful with the shirtless (and sometimes wet) Damon that we just can’t get enough of.
Really liked the scene at the end with Caroline and Abby which as heartbreaking and hits home that Caroline is still missing her father. Also get a brief return of Jeremy who is happily living a ‘normal’ life away from Mystic Falls. All wraps up in a neat little bow when Damon finds historical signs that contain the White Oak that they need.
